Laboratory work, on this Wiki, does not include work in which the only tools in use are a computer and software. For these forms of laboratory work see Undertaking computer laboratory work. Laboratory work outside of this context will involve practical use of specialist equipment. This might include specialist and possibly fragile hardware, software, visual, auditory and tactile interfaces, handling of chemicals, drugs, biological matter, electrical components etc. Students who rely on particular equipment, support and/or working methods when reading, writing, notetaking, working in groups, completing practical tasks, communicating or being assessed may find that these strategies are compromised in a laboratory environment and that alternative strategies are needed.
